Flat roof repairs

IMG_1465.jpg

During our first winter here in Lynton we came to understand that the flat roof really needed fixing!

The orginal asphalt flat roof rather than being repaired had been recovered with a secondary corrugated plastic sheeting. This secondary roofing no longer resists the storm winds and frequently parts of it are torn off by the gales and the rain pours in! Last winter saw us collecting all the buckets we could find to fill the cloister corridor to catch all the drips. We are fast approaching our second winter here and hope that the roof will be repaired soon. This is important not just for our peace of mind(!) but to protect the building from futher water ingress which has caused quite a bit of damage.

The cloister roof is approximately 30m by 3m and there is a smaller second flat roof which also needs repairs. This roof covers a small room which when repaired will house our pottery workshop for sr Rebekah Marie.
