Leaky windows

IMG_4944.JPG

The convent windows, although beautiful to the eye, being the original windows of the building, after 110 years are in need of some careful restoration. Most of the windows let in water, and here on the North Devon coast the wind and rain is unsparing!

Providence, at work again, has introduced us to Giles and Tom, local joiners, a father and son business, friends of a friend, who have accepted to take up the mammoth challenge of our windows, a daunting task as there is around 150 of them!

After undertaking a survey of all the windows, they have made themselves a provisionary workshop here in the monastery and are currently working on the most damaged windows, beginning in the cloister and soon to start on some from the west facing cells.

This is a big project, which will be under taken in chunks over the course of the next few years. Would you like to sponsor a window? Or make an offering towards a week of their labour?
